The crown of this beautiful, water-loving tree pops out just above the sea of bamboo surrounding it. Only a handful of mature trees – the very tallest – have survived the onslaught of this light-swallowing bamboo forest at the edge of the reserve. We’ll make sure the quinine has room to breathe – and some local companions. The pilot project area is lucky to have a few mature quinines standing proudly along a stream, but they aren’t numerous elsewhere. It would be rather fine to mount a rescue effort for this one.
